HYDERABAD : The proposed `silent awareness campaign' by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in front of the Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in Secunderabad turned out to be a damp squib with the police disallowing their protest.

A few activists of PETA gathered before the outlet near Ramgopalpet police station and began unveiling their banners with slogans like `save animals, save earth' and `have a heart for chicken' when the police asked them to disperse as requisite permission was not taken.

PETA activists and college students -- Harsha, Bharat, Phani -- and others tried to convince policemen that their protest was going to be silent and peaceful without causing any obstructions. But, their pleas were in vain and they had to move out.

Protest at Indira Park

Later, they took their gear to Indira Park and conducted their protest.

But, this time they chose not to be silent and shouted full-throated slogans against `unethical treatment' of chicken in KFC farms.
