Tirupati
A.D. Rangarajan
TIRUPATI : The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) Tirupati telecom district unit is all set to scale a new high in the WLL (Wireless in Local Loop) segment. But what is a cause for concern is the `diversion' of as many as 15,000 WLL instruments elsewhere. The district has as many as 14 WLL sites covering all the SDCCs (Short Distance Charging Centres) and two more are expected to be commissioned by this month-end. Further, it is proposed to add 28 more to the list, which will make it the best in the State in terms of WLL sites.
Additional connections
The BSNL will then be capable of providing an additional 11,000 connections on fixed WLL, besides the existing 2,500, thus drastically improving tele-density and taking WLL proliferation to a new high. But what has come as a dampener is the alleged diversion of as many as 15,000 instruments actually earmarked for Tirupati. Though the top brass is silent, it is learnt that the instruments had been diverted to a neighbouring State for obvious reasons. Also, it will take at least five months for the new consignment to arrive.
