National rowing championship inaugurated

HYDERABAD : The 26th National open rowing championship was formally inaugurated at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Monday with 18 State Associations including the Police teams taking part in the practice sessions.

The actual competition starts from February 16 and some of the big names who will be in action include Arjuna Awardee Janil Krishnan, Elbi Son, Sajiv Thomas and Mastan in men's section and Pravasini, Mamata and Swathi in the women's category.

Races will be held in four lanes in 500m and 1000m events. Preliminary heats are scheduled on February 16 and 17 morning and the finals the same evening.

Talwar Hyundai wins

Talwar Hyundai 171 for seven (Jignish 52, Rohit Gupta 44) beat Pharma Blues 155 for eight; Polaris 81 (Karthik five for 26) lost to Guzzlers 83 for one.
