Rajahmundry: Several journalists paid rich tributes to Gandham Naga Subrahmanyam, popularly known as `Samacharam' Subrahmanyam, on his second death anniversary at a meeting organised by the Rajahmundry Press Club here on Tuesday. Additional Director of State Information Centre Sk. Laljan was the chief guest for the meeting presided over by its president V. S. S. Krishna Kumar and attended by vice-president Bhaktavatsalam, secretary D. Sampath and joint secretary K. Diwakar. Speaking on the occasion, senior reporter Raka Sudhakar said that it was rare in the field of journalism for a journalist to win a place in hearts of thousands of people in a big town like Rajahmundry. Subrahmanyam achieved it through his commitment towards journalism, ethics and service orientation. He said that no politician or dignitary was talked about in each and every house as Subrahmanyam was, after his demise.
Not a simple thing
Mr. Krishna Kumar said that attaining popularity through a local Telugu daily was not a simple thing and it was great that Subrahmanyam achieved it. He said that from this year, the `Samacharam' newspaper would conduct the Endowment Lecture of Subrahmanyam every year. Bellamkonda Srinivas said Subrahmanyam stood as a role model for the budding as well as senior journalists as he had run the newspaper with dignity for more than 25 years. He asked the Press Club to create a fund to help the families of those journalists who lose their life midway.
