Kakinada: The age old Anchorage port is expected to achieve record revenue of Rs.10 crores by the end of current financial year, according to Port official sources. Till the end of December last, the revenue accrued was Rs.7.72 Crores, which is the highest ever earned in the last five years. So far it has handled the cargo, both of exports and imports, to the tune of 23 lakh metric tonnes and by March end, it is expected to cross 26 lakh metric tonnes.
Mechanised boats
On the mechanised boats owned by the Port department, sources said in the past, it was having both small and big boats at the rate of eight each. Among them two big boats outlived their service and were slated for condemnation. Another big boat was meant for survey purpose and of the remaining, two were being used for VIP visits and inspection while the other two boats for port patrolling. Sources clarified that the remaining mechanised boats were meant for carrying the silt dredged out by the dredgers from the commercial canal, the main canal used for barges movement. Whenever dredging work is not on, these boats would be hired to the shipping agents for towing the cargo barges to the ships anchored at the anchorage.
