Autorickshaw drivers continue strike
As some drivers were found taking more children during their `school trips,' cases were registered against them. So, they started their strike on Monday. Their representatives met Police Commissioner K. Jayanth Murali, who assured them that a final decision would be arrived at after convening a tripartite meeting involving police, representatives of auto drivers and transport officials. Later, the drivers met Collector Atul Anand and submitted a memorandum.

A note said the SETC, which hitherto allotted seats serially, has decided to allocate seats according to the preference of travellers. As per the new system, the commuter, while reserving his ticket 10 days prior to the date of journey, can reserve the seat of his choice without paying any extra amount. The facility will be available at Tirunelveli and Tuticorin. Two luxury coaches have been added to the fleet of SETC to be operated between Tirunelveli and Bangalore and in the return direction. The departure time of these buses will be 6 p.m. on both directions.
Demonstration

Viyanarasu, they said the Union Government should give the entire flood relief of Rs. 13,685 crore, demanded by the Tamil Nadu Government as the assistance of Rs. 1,000 crore released by the Centre was not enough to compensate the enormous loss suffered by the farmers of Tamil Nadu. Moreover, the Central Government should initiate steps to waive all loans availed by farmers. The Union Government should prevent the Andhra Pradesh Government from constructing a dam across the Palar, which was providing succour to the people of Chengalpet and Chennai districts, they said.
