BANGALORE: "Improved performance... but still not satisfied" said Serbian coach Zoran Lukic as the Indian basketball campers snuffed out the challenge of Karnataka at 98-50 n an exhibition match at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium here this evening. This was the second of the three exhibition matches planned for the Indian campers undergoing training at the SAI South Centre here since mid-January. Having won the first 57-55 almost a week ago, there was apprehensions "We are working out certain strategies and skills and will experiment with them in match situations" said coach Zoran. The camp for 19 cagers has been pruned to 14 with Subash Shenoy, Damandeep Singh, Snehpal Singh, Ethiraj and Vinod were omitted. Ethiraj and Snehpal are injured and cannot be fit enough for the forthcoming Commonwealth games at Melbourne was Zoran's firm ruling. Today too, the Campers looked shoddy in defence and lacked aggression in offensive rebounds but seemed very sure in the shooting department. Also the free-throw conversions showed good percentage. "There are 17 more days before the leave for New Zealand for an four nation tourney and I will get them to peak condition" said Zoran, whose European blend of training has gone well with the players. Karnataka however were without prolific shooter Murli Mohan while B.S. Gautham too looked a lot subdued. "The boys played positive basketball only for about five minutes in the entire match... but then getting used to the court is also a factor" felt the coach who promised a much better showing in the third scheduled match, on February 18, at the newly constructed Mangala Indoor stadium in Mangalore. The scores: Indian Campers 98 (Trideep Rai 21, Shivkumar 16, Talwinderjeet 10) bt Karnataka 50 (Umashankar 13, Srinivas Naik 12, Srinivasa Gowda 10)(Ht: 53-21).
