VHP leader is dead

SHIMOGA: H.A. Narasimhamurthy Iyengar, a veteran leader of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Pradhan Archak of the Kote Sri Seetharam Anjaneyaswamy Temple, died here in the early hours of Tuesday at a private nursing home. He was 79. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.

Mr. Iyengar, who was closely associated with the activities of the Sangh Parivar, was the Sampark Pramukh of the Dakshina Bharath Mathidhipatis. He held several positions in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. He played an important role in strengthening the Akhil Bharatiya Vidharti Parishad and the Rashtriya Sevika Sangh in Shimoga.

Shimoga MLA K.S. Eshwarappa, former MP Ayanur Manjunath and director T.S. Nagabharan paid tributes to Mr. Iyengar at a condolence meeting held at the Kote Sri Seetharam Anjaneyaswamy Temple.

S.H. Shankarnath Das

The Harikatha Vidwan and recipient of the Karnataka Sangeet Nritya Academy Award, S.H. Shankarnath Das, died here on Monday night. He was 77.

He is survived by three sons and five daughters.
