It was a day filled with fun and frolic

Rotary Children's School celebrates annual `Open Day'

  • A variety of games and competitions were held
  • Proceeds have been donated to Asha Dayaka Seva Trust
  • The trust has 31 street children under its care

MYSORE: It was a day of fun and frolic at Rotary Children's School on Jhansi Lakshmi Bai Road in Mysore on Friday.

Those who turned up for the annual "Open Day" had a whale of a time, playing games and treating themselves to various delicacies.

They showed their parents models and charts they had prepared as part of academic work and participated in various games and competitions. One of the competitions saw girls putting bindi on a poster of actress Aishwarya Rai, blind-folded. Throwing the basketball and breaking a pyramid of cans with a tennis ball were among the games.

Some parents tried their luck at guessing the weight of a huge watermelon.

The proceeds of the games and competitions were donated to Asha Dayaka Seva Trust, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) engaged in rehabilitation of destitute and street children.

"We had coupons for various denominations which can be exchanged by students to play games or buy eatables. We hope to raise about Rs. 40,000 this time around," school manager P.J. Ramu told The Hindu .

Headmistress Jennifer said students prepared models and charts based on a topic in their syllabi.

"For instance, students of Class V chose the theme of `public property' this year. Each of them prepared models of a park, school, railway station or a bus station.

Explaining the services of the Asha Dayaka Seva Trust, Mr. Ramu said the NGO has 31 street children under its care.
