MADANAPALLE: As many as 191 houses will be submerged by the Handri Neeva project and rehabilitation of families in the submerged areas will be taken up before the launch of the project, according to Chittoor Collector S.S.Rawat. Speaking a public hearing held at the Sub Collector's office, Madanapalle, on Monday in connection with the project, he said dreams of the people of Chittoor, Kurnool, Cuddapah and Anantapur would materialise with the project. Retired Superintending Engineer Rajagopal Reddy said that the project would enhance greenery and other facilities. He said he did not see any problem in construction og the project and that it would only help in the development of the district. Kotaiah, professor of S.V.University, Tirupati, anticipating hindrances on part of politicians and technical staff, wanted rehabilitation of people in the areas that would be submerged and it should not be like that of people in the submerged areas of the Nagarjunasagar dam. He also sought hike in the compensation amount. K. Prabhakara Reddy, MLA, said the water running waste into the sea should be properly utilised.
