Auraiya (Uttar Pradesh):
For 15-year-old Anju of this town in Uttar Pradesh, life would never be the same again without an arm which she lost while resisting the attempts of four youths
The courageous girl, belonging to a poor Kanjar family, was accosted by four unidentified youths of her village when she had gone to buy vegetables in Achalda village earlier this week.
The youths, belonging to influential families, could not take `no' for an answer and in order to overcome their frustration and teach the girl a lesson, chopped off her right arm and carried it away with them leaving her in a field in an unconscious condition.
Profusely bleeding, the girl was rushed to a police station
It was only after the intervention of the Superintendent of Police that an FIR was registered and a hunt launched to arrest the culprits who have since fled the village.
"Order for registering the FIR was issued as soon as the family brought it to our notice and all-out efforts have been made to arrest them," SP Dharamvir said. Two police teams have been constituted and dispatched to various destinations to arrest the culprits, he added.
The girl has named the accused in her statement before the police, the SP said.
Meanwhile, Anju has been admitted to a hospital in Kanpur for treatment. -- PTI
