CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government on Tuesday said there was no proposal to privatise its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and these would continue to function as institutions of the State Government. Also, the existing officialswould remain the employees of the Government and their service conditions would not be altered, the Director, Haryana Industrial Training and Vocational Education, Arun Kumar, said here. He said that the Government had sought the help of some of the leading industrial houses only to facilitate fruitful interaction for improving, upgrading and enriching the trainees and not for any other purpose. It may be recalled that the State Government had signed memoranda of understanding with leading corporates --Maruti Udyog Limited, Liberty Shoes Limited, Jay Bharat Maruti and Sona Koyo Steering Systems to gain from the expertise and core-competence of industry and make training more meaningful. Mr. Arun Kumar said that this initiative was being misconstrued and misinterpreted by some vested interests who were saying that the Government wanted to privatize the ITIs. He said that he had held meetings with the representatives of the Union and Principals of the ITIs and made it clear to them that there was no move to privatise them and the service conditions of the employees would remain the same. Moreover, the fee and stipend being paid to the trainees or the system of placement of trainees as apprentices would remain as per the policy of the State Government as the private partners would have no role in either fixing or altering the same.
