Guntur ZP sets record in upgradation of schools

Staff Reporter

Some 76 upper primary schools upgraded in the last four years

  • The district has 306 schools in total
  • NRIs play key role in the process
  • Ten more schools await nod for upgradation

GUNTUR: The Guntur Zilla Parishad has set a record of sorts by upgrading 76 upper primary schools in the district to ZP high schools in the last four years, thus improving the villages to high schools ratio.

The district with 230 high schools four years ago, today has 306 of them catering to needs of children even in remote villages thus reducing the number of dropouts after the VIIth standard.

For every five villages there used to be one ZP high school compared to today's one school for every three villages, said ZP Chairman Pathuri Nagabhushanam on Tuesday.

The role of non-resident Indians was very good in improving the ratio with quality, he said.

They had contributed a lot in the construction of additional buildings and classrooms at many places out of the Rs. 20 crores spent by the ZP during these four years, he observed.
