NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Delhi State Vikram Association and Poorvanchal Vikram Association representing the three-wheeler load-carrying Vikram drivers met Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf on Tuesday under the leadership of Congress legislator Mahabal Mishra and sought a review of the fixed timings for plying of their vehicles on the city roads as it had hit their business badly. Mr. Mishra, joined by the Jehangirpuri MLA, Jile Singh Chauhan, informed the Transport Minister that the new order restricting entry of vehicles from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. had hit the three-wheeler drivers badly. As these three-wheelers are used for transportation of goods to various parts of the Capital, restriction on their plying during peak hours had curtailed their daily earnings. These union leaders pleaded that the Government should review the timings so that some relief could be given to these people. Mr. Mishra explained that although they agreed with the restrictions imposed during the morning peak hours, the evening hours restriction was a big setback as this was the peak time to pick up and deliver goods. Mr. Mishra said the Government should completely do away with the evening restrictions as the load carrying three-wheelers comprised only 17,000 out of the 40-lakh odd vehicles registered with the Transport Department of the Delhi Government. Mr. Yusuf reportedly assured the delegation that he would sympathetically look into their demands and review the situation along with his officials.
