Concern over offensive cartoons
New Delhi:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed "deep concern" over the publication of offensive cartoons of Prophet Mohammad and its violent aftermath and underlined India's commitment to preserving harmony and religious tolerance.
"The Government of India is deeply concerned both by the publication of these cartoons and by the growing international controversy that has arisen as a result," Dr. Singh said in a letter to Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari here. The Imam had written a letter to the Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi last week urging them to express Centre's resentment to the Denmark Government and the Congress party to openly condemn such acts.
