New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday indicating that it was accepting the report of the investigation officer of the Central Buareau of Investigation that "there are enough materials" to proceed against the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in the `Rs. 175 cr. Taj corridor scam. In the light of this, a three-Judge Bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal, Justice S.B. Sinha and Justice S.H. Kapadia said that it would ask the CBI to place before the Magistrate concerned the report of the investigating officer and it would be open to the Magistrate to take cognisance or not. When the Bench was about to pass an order, senior counsel, K.K. Venugopal, appearing for Ms. Mayawati asked the court not to act upon the report of the Central Vigilance Commission recommending action against her. The Bench asked the counsel "what is your locus standi before filing of the chargesheet and cognisance taken by the court." Mr. Venugopal said he would make his submissions on this aspect and the bench adjourned the proceedings till Friday. In the Taj scam, following the opinion given by the Attorney General, Milon K. Banerjee that there was no case against Ms. Mayawati, the CBI dropped all charges against her and informed the same to the apex court.
