There was sudden increase in numbers as hundreds of buses continued to transport people from different corners of the district and State.

People had to wait for long in the queue before reaching the actual site of the jatara.

On Wednesday evening, a group of tribal priests will bring the deity of Sarakka from the neighbouring Kannepalli village marking the beginning of the jatara. On Thursday evening, the deity Sammakka arrives from the Chilkalgutta hillocks accompanied by the tribal priests and officials from the district administration.

The district administration made elaborate arrangements for the jatara. Private vehicles were routed through the Pasra via Narlapur while the Tadvai - Medaram route was earmarked exclusively for the APSRTC buses.

The whole of Medaram village was lit up for the celebrations. Hundreds of shops and petty business enterprises came up all over. The pilgrims were seen spread over 5 km around the venue. Temporary dwellings have sprung up presenting a spectacular sight.

Meanwhile, two persons reportedly got washed away when they went for bath in the Jampanna vagu here.

They reportedly belonged to Hyderabad and were identified as Chinnam Srinu and Balakrishna. The fire department personnel tried to fish out the bodies, but in vain.
