Maoists back railway staff stir

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Maoist) Central Committee has extended its support to the proposed strike by railway workers from March 1.

Azad, committee spokesperson, in a press release issued here on Tuesday, called upon its units in the country to support the strike.

He wanted people to back the strike called to protest the "anti-people pro-imperialistic policies" of globalisation, liberalisation and privatisation pursued by the Manmohan Singh Government.

He alleged that the Congress-led UPA Government was acting as per the dictates of the World Bank.

The previous BJP-led NDA Government had initiated what he called a series of "anti-working classes" measures such as refusal to constitute the Sixth Pay Commission, drastic reduction in railway staff, not filling vacant posts and banning recruitment.
