PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY: The Kadri Manjunatha temple is getting ready for the Brahmakalashotsava.
MANGALORE: The Kadri Manjunatha temple will be holding the Brahmakalashotsava from April 24 to May 2 after a gap of 17 years. Providing details about the utsav, managing trustee of the temple A.J. Shetty said that it is usually held once in 12 years. It was held in 1972 and then in 1988, four years late owing to several reasons. This time it is being held six years late as the temple trust had taken up several developmental works during the last 18 years and could not garner adequate funds for the utsav, he said. Trustees and scholar Anantharama Rao, outlining the features of the utsav, said this year the Mahadanda Rudrabhisheka will be held during the utsav. This is a unique abhisheka where the "gomukha thirtha" drawn from the Kashi Bhagirathi (a perennial water source from the Kadri Hills believed to be linked to the pilgrimage centre of Kashi) will be channelised through a "mahadanda" into the sanctum sanctorum to perform abhisheka to the Shivalingam.
Contributions
Senior trustee of the temple S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said the Bramakalashotsava will be performed at a cost of Rs. 35 lakhs. Since the temple is in need of funds, the public should contribute generously for this cause, he added.
