AWAKENING TO CULTURE: Participants of the educational expedition at Mahabalipuram.
LifeStation, an organisation based in Chennai, organised an educational expedition to Mahabalipuram for 66 students of Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao School.
The mission was undertaken with Awakening Indians To India as the theme.
The event was supported by the Murugappa Group.
Students pedalled their way along East Coast Road from Uthandi through the `Heritage Drive.'
The cycle rally was aimed at promoting adventure and heritage awareness and appreciation among schoolchildren, in whose hands the future of the country lies.
The Chennai Circle team of the Archaeological Survey of India, Superintending Archaeologist T. Sathyamurthy, Assistant Archaeologist G. Thirumoorthy, and Kaykaren guided the students around the architectural splendour of the place. Mr. Thirumoorthy showed the students the findings of the post tsunami excavations, especially a temple dating back to the Sangam period, and explained the relevance and importance of the artefacts and brick-walled structures of that period.
