Court takes exception to non-serving of notice
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
A Division Bench of the Madras High Court expressed its displeasure, on Tuesday, at the non-serving of court notice on Inspector Marimuthu, who allegedly harassed advocates in Madurai.
Taking exception to the Madurai Commissioner's submission that the notice could not be served, as the whereabouts of the Inspector were not known, the Bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice J.A.K. Sampathkumar said the Home Secretary, the Director-General of Police and the Madurai Commissioner were "hobnobbing to protect the Inspector."
The Bench wondered how the Commissioner could be unaware of the whereabouts of his subordinate official.
It then ordered a fresh notice to the respondents and directed the Commissioner to intimate the Inspector about the development "wherever he is."
Case file
Noting that it would consider the preliminary objection raised by the Commissioner, the Bench directed him to furnish the case file for perusal.
The judges posted the matter to February 20.
Dharna
In the afternoon, advocates took out a rally and staged a dharna on the High Court premises, seeking immediate suspension of the police official.
