CHENNAI: Tanker Foundation (Tamilnad Kidney Research Foundation), which provides financial aid for renal transplantation, medication and investigation costs of patients with kidney failure, will open its second dialysis unit at the Rotary Ambattur Hospital. The unit, which will come up on space allotted by the Ambattur Rotary Charitable trust, aims to perform six dialysis sessions a day on a subsidised rate of Rs. 500 per session.
To be cheaper
This cost will be further reduced to Rs. 450 per session from April 1, inclusive of dialyser and tubings. The unit has been named after the Foundation's late trustee, Renny Abraham, and will be formally opened on Friday by his mother, Saley Abraham. ABAN group of companies has donated Rs. 20 lakh for starting the second unit. Founded in 1993 by nephrologist Georgi Abraham, Tanker Foundation at present operates a 10-bed dialysis unit which offers free/subsidised dialysis to needy patients. It has so far conducted over 23,000 dialysis sessions to help 318 patients and has provided over Rs. 26 lakh for 385 patients towards transplantation, medication and investigation costs. Tanker aims to help more underprivileged patients suffering from kidney failure through donations from the public. For details, contact 42137283.
