How to get into IIT

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The alumni association of IIT-Madras will organise a programme on February 18 for school students aspiring to get into the country's premier technical education institutes.

Titled "How to catch the IIT bug," the programme is designed to be informative, interactive and fun.

The Director of IIT Madras, M.S. Ananth, Deans, IIT alumni and representatives from the present batch of students will speak to the students.

Asit K. Barma, general secretary of the alumni association's Chennai chapter, says that many talented students, especially from Corporation schools, do not even attempt to get into the IIT. "They have to at least test the waters. We want students to realise that the IIT dream is not something beyond reach," he says.

The IIT-JEE question paper pattern will be one of the topics of discussion. Other discussion points would be: Which is the ideal class to start preparation? How useful are training institutes? What kind of parental support is needed?

The event is open to students strong in academics and currently studying in classes 9 to 12. The programme will be held from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at IIT's CLT auditorium, which has seating capacity for 350 persons.

Entry is free but with prior registration in view of limited seats. Parents and teachers can participate too. High tea and a campus tour will follow the interactive sessions.

Contact Ajay (98400-45755), Sukesh (98410-68825) or the alumni office (22578391) for registration.
