Minor `jogini' issue: action sought against offenders

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samakhya has condemned the action of converting an eight-year-old girl into a `jogini' at Tharur village in Ranga Reddy district. Samakhya president Pasya Padma and general secretary Prem Pavani in a release on Tuesday said that those responsible for the regressive act should be dealt with stern punishment. They wanted the Government to extend assistance for the education of the child.

Condemning the action, they said in spite of legislations to curb such practices, children were becoming victims of superstitions.
