HYDERABAD: Developers for the city's 60 km Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) are reported to have been shortlisted and the selected consortia are to be given technical and financial bid documents in a few days. Seven consortia of national and international companies are in the race for the first phase of the MRTS estimated to cost up to Rs. 8,000 crores. The firms include four city-based companies such as NCC, GVK, Navabharat, Maytas and IVRCL plus renowned ones like Singapore MRT, Siemens AG, ETA (Dubai), Reliance Energy, Bombardier, Metrail, Alstom, Hitachi (Japan), etc.
Presentations made
The consortia have made their pre-qualification bid presentations to a high-powered committee headed by the Chief Secretary. The technical consultant for the project too has been finalised among the five pre-qualified consortia by a panel headed by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary. The technical consultants will help the Government in the preparation of the technical and financial bid documents. These along with detailed project reports prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be distributed to short-listed developers. A period of three months will be given to them to come up with their own project report based on which final selection of the Build, Operate & Transfer developers will be made, official sources said.
Busy corridors
The MRTS first phase covers three of the busiest corridors and the DMRC has been asked to submit feasibility reports for extending the lines from Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma, L.B.Nagar to Patancheru and Habsiguda to Hi-tec City. The Hyderabad project has opted for standard gauge elevated system.
