KOCHI: Thousands of devotees reached the Chottanikkara Devi Temple to offer prayers on the auspicious day of Makam in the lunar month of Kumbha. Legend says that it was the day when saint Vilwumangala Swamiyar had a divine vision of the Goddess here.

The long-winding queue at the two gates of the temple were regulated by about 750 police personnel.

The Chottanikkara Dewaswom estimates that about 1.5-2 lakh devotees had visited the temple to seek darshan of the deity on Tuesday.

The representatives of the Kshetra Kshema Samiti distributed buttermilk and water to the devotees.
