Bangalore: They are students coming from deprived backgrounds and studying in government and municipal schools. Most live in hamlets and slums around Electronics City, the symbol of Bangalore's IT hub status. On Tuesday, 75 such children, selected for their aptitude in art, completed a week-long art camp conducted in association with the faculty of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. Some of them will eventually be helped by the staff of Hewlett-Packard, which organised the art camp, to go for formal art education.
Tapping potential
Chitrakala Parishath Principal Suresh Jayaram said: "We are excited to join hands with the information technology industry to harness the potential of young and impressionable minds, and train them in any of the commercial art streams. The training camp for the 75 children will help them not only appreciate and experience art, but also make it a potential source of employment." Handing over certificates to the students, president and CEO of HP GlobalSoft Som Mittal said: "By adopting a multi-faceted approach, the Government schools can foster all round development of children. We at HP will continue to support such initiatives." The Budding Artist event was conceptualised as a platform to identify artistically inclined children in association with the Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA), the animation training institute Animaster and others.
