KPSC publishes provisional list of candidates

Staff Reporter

It comes after protracted litigation and scams that clouded the selection process

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) on Tuesday published the provisional select list of 383 eligible candidates for State services in the Gazetted Probationers' (Group A & B), 1998, examination.

Moderation marks

The publication comes after protracted litigation and scams that clouded the selection process for over seven years. Even after KPSC completed moderation of answer scripts of the main examination and began the interview process during the last week December 2005, many candidates who have lost considerable marks during the moderation approached the Supreme Court.

However, the Apex Court dismissed their plea paving the way for publication of the list.

The selection process was mired in controversy since beginning. First, it was the Government which withdrew the notified vacancies.

Legal wrangles

Legal wrangles over rural weightage withheld the process for sometime. Then it was the fraud played in the main examination, which was finally established by KPSC itself, holding the then secretary and a few other candidates guilty of malpractice. The Supreme Court finally cleared the way for selection process in November last.

KPSC Chairman H.N. Krishna told The Hindu that the final list of candidates would be published on receiving and considering any objections to the provisional list after 15 days. The selection list would then be sent to the government for issue of appointment orders by the departments concerned.

Dr. Krishna said that though candidates of the 1999 batch have been appointed prior to 1998 candidates, the latter would continue to enjoy seniority.
