Bangalore: It is that time of the year again. There is a sudden increase in the sale of flowers, chocolates, greeting cards, and just about anything that is either pink or red. It is that time of the year when people around the world are inspired to proclaim their love for their partner.

This year a number of events were launched as part of Valentine's Day celebrations. It started with Indigo Nation's Speed Dating event. Several coffee outlets and restaurants had a special menu that featured lip smacking goodies and an exclusive lovers' buffet. Beauty salons offered beauty packages for couples.

To celebrate the magical time, Lipton T Place, Koramangala, organised a contest for its customers on Friday. Customers were asked to describe their dream date and Lipton promised to turn their dream date into a reality. Of the 2,000 entries received, three were chosen in a lucky draw. One of the prize winners, Vinit's dream date was to walk on the beach in Goa with his loved one and watch the sunset in all its hues. He and his date will be taken to one of the best restaurants in the city.

Model Pashmina Barker, who gave away the prizes to the winners, said: "This is a brilliant concept that is different and original. I am excited for the winners."

The day was celebrated by the young and the old alike. "There was this old couple sitting behind me at a coffee outlet in a mall having a Valentine's Day dinner by themselves. They were surprised when I told them that I did not have any plans for the day," said Malini, a student.

Another student, Medha, said it is time for couples to think out of the box and go beyond the red roses, box of chocolates, and fluffy teddy bears. "Something that is original and creative will always be appreciated," she said. Couples in the city also tried to contribute to various charities as part of their celebrations. This goes on to prove that there are infinite ways to express love and one just has to choose what suits him/her the best.
