The other members of the committee are senior Congress leader and Sakurbasti MLA, S. C. Vats, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan, former chief city planner Mohammad Shafi and well-known architect E. F. N. Rebeiro. The Ministry issued a notification to this effect on Tuesday evening.

The Committee has come into being following directions from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to put in place a committee that would look into the various issues pertaining to demolitions, violation of building by-laws and unauthorised constructions in order to find a way to amicably resolve the matter. Although the terms and reference of the Committee have not been notified, it has been asked to submit its report within three months.
