NEW DELHI: Fashion designers Rohit Bal, Suneet Verma, Mandira Wirk and others on Tuesday withdrew their joint petition before the Delhi High Court challenging the demolition of their outlets at MG2 on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma dismissed the petition as withdrawn when the petitioners' counsel submitted that his clients were not interested in pressing the petition. The Bench had last week refused to stay demolition of the mall built on rural "Lal Dora" land. While adjourning the hearing on the petition till February 14, the Bench had directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to submit a copy of the Government of India notification of 1963 where it was notified, according to the petitioners, that the provisions of building by-laws do not apply to constructions in the Lal Dora areas. The Bench had also directed the MCD to inform it whether the land on which the mall was built was included in the extended Lal Dora when it was extended in 1954. The petitioners through their counsel K.T.S. Tulsi and Sultan Singh had sought a stay on the demolition as well as quashing of the demolition notice issued by the MCD to the owner of the land on which the mall was built. In its order, the Bench had on January 18 this year directed the MCD to demolish all commercial properties on Lal Dora land saying the area was meant for the village population.
