NEW DELHI: Stepping up its exercise against property tax defaulters, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday attached bank accounts of six trade towers at Nehru Place and also of two cinemas halls and hospitals each, while preparations are being made to serve notices for attachment of properties of over a dozen school and two-dozen farmhouses.

Similarly, the action was initiated against Mangalam Hospital (Rs.16 lakhs) in Central Delhi, Jessa Ram Hospital (Rs.4 lakhs) in Karol Bagh, Satyam Cinema (Rs.74 lakhs) in West Delhi and Excelsior Cinema (Rs.16 lakhs) in Central Delhi.

A senior MCD Assessment and Collection Department disclosed that on Wednesday it would serve property attachment notices to at least 15 schools, including some prominent public schools, and 30 farmhouses that have to pay property tax and arrears worth over crore.

It would also be serving attachment notice to the South Delhi Club that has to pay Rs.1.21 crores in arrears.

Besides planning action against ashrams of some top religious leaders in the Capital for not paying their property tax, the MCD will also be taking penal action against more than a dozen cinema halls that include Amba (Sabzi Mandi), Palace (Roshanara Road), Jagat (Old Delhi), Shiela (Paharganj), Batra (Mukherjee Nagar), Robin (Kashmere Gate), Virat (Kashmere Gate), Janak (Janakpuri), Akash (Azadpur) and Novelty (Old Delhi).
