Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation has supplied 3,630 lamps to the Kerala State Electricity Board to improve streetlighting in the area around the Attukal temple before the Pongala festival takes off on March 13. Presiding over a review meeting to assess the preparations for the festival, Mayor C. Jayan Babu said the corporation had supplied all the electrical equipment demanded by the Manacaud, Fort, Karamana, Sreevarahom and Poojappura electrical sections to service the festival zone. He said additional supplies were stocked to meet further demands. The meeting was informed that all the roads around the temple would be repaired by the end of the month. The corporation health department has also made arrangements to clean up the area during the 10-day festival. The ban on using unburnt bricks will be enforced and action will be taken against anyone found selling or manufacturing them. Works standing committee chairman K. Rajasekharan Nair, councillors, corporation secretary T.K. Raveendran and office-bearers of the Attukal Temple Trust participated in the meeting.
