One shot dead in court premises

Gurgaon: Unidentified persons shot dead an undertrial at a court premises here on Wednesday, the police said.

Dharambir Singh, a resident of Ullahabad village, was shot at by some persons, disguised as advocates, from close range when he was brought to a court for appearance in connection with a case, they said.

Singh later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Eight killed in U.P. road mishaps

Lucknow: At least eight persons were killed and 11 injured in different accidents across Uttar Pradesh during the last 24 hours.

The police said here on Wednesday that four people were killed and nine injured when the jeep they were travelling on rammed into a tree in the Rampur Kalan area of neighbouring Sitapur district.

Two people on a motorcycle were killed after coming in contact with a speeding truck in the Sirsaganj area of Farrukhabad district on Tuesday.

Held for taking bribe

Jaipur: Rajasthan's anti-corruption bureau on Wednesday arrested an administrative officer of Jhalawar's civic body for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a contractor, an official spokesman said here.

The accused Banwari Lal Nagar had demanded Rs.15,000 from the contractor for passing a building material bill, the spokesman said.

The ACB sleuths caught the official during a raid while he was allegedly taking bribe.

Eve teasers beat up teacher

Sirsa: Some unidentified persons beat up a school teacher for restraining them from harassing girl students, the police said on Wednesday.

Naresh Panwar restrained the eve teasers from harassing the girl examinees who had come to take annual examination at the local Government senior secondary school, the police said.

After some time the youth returned and thrashed Panwar when he came out of the school and fled from the scene, the police said.

Wanted courier of weapons arrested

NEW DELHI: A person wanted in connection with a decade-old case pertaining to smuggling of weapons and drugs at the instance of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), against whom a look-out notice had been issued, was arrested at Delhi airport by the Southern Range of the Special Cell when he was allegedly trying to flee to Pakistan on Monday.

The accused, Gayur Ali, a resident of Kairana at Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, was going to Pakistan on a visa issued to him for the India-Pakistan one-day international cricket match series when he was arrested. During interrogation, he purportedly revealed that his accomplices, Hazi Manzoor, Riozwan, Islamuddin, Mohammad Ayub, Pushpender Bansal and Ehsan Ali were arrested after 28 pistols and 27 magazines were recovered from their possession in Karol Bagh.

Two held for fake complaint

NEW DELHI: A 27-year-old woman and her beloved were arrested by the Timarpur police in North Delhi on Tuesday for allegedly lodging a false complaint of criminal assault against a person for money.
