Jeeva wants to prove himself

S.R. Ashok Kumar

I was initially bent upon becoming a cameraman... I wanted to do my bachelor's at the Vancouver film school.

Actor Jeeva

CHENNAI: He wanted to stand behind a camera, did a course on photography, and did get to shoot two films. But now he is a hero, with four films to his credit. That is, if you do not count the two movies he acted in as a child star. Here, Jeeva talks about his younger days and his forthcoming films.

I am an easygoing person, just about the same as anybody my age. But now that I am a film actor, I want to prove myself by performing well. My biggest minus point is my anger. I spend my time listening to music and seeing films. If I were not an actor, I would still be a film buff. My father, R.B. Chowdhary, has been in the industry for 20 years as a film producer and distributor. So, I want to make sure I don't spoil his name. I think he is happy with my performance in "Ram" and "Dishyum."

I was initially bent upon becoming a cameraman... I wanted to do my bachelor's at the Vancouver film school. I was working very hard to finish my demo films to be sent to the film school. At that time director Ravi Maria asked me whether I was interested in working as a hero in a film. I thought he was joking. But then I realised he was serious. I said no, and he left.

However Ravi Maria went to my father and asked his permission to make me a hero. My father told him, "let us take a test and decide." People saw the rushes and liked it. It was only after that my father made me sign an agreement with his Super Good Films. But after "Aasai Aasaiyai" and "Thiththikkudhe" he allowed me to work for Director Amir in "Ram". Now "Dishyum" is doing pretty well.

I am happy that my elder brother Ramesh ("Jithan") too entered films after me. He is also doing some good films.

After "Ram" and "Dishyum" people expect to see me in different characters. Now I am doing some good films like "E", "Pori"(spark) and others. It's been good so far, but I have to sustain it. I also want to prove that I am capable of giving a good performance.
