Rupee weakens

MUMBAI: Rupee weakened against the U.S. currency on Wednesday on a fresh round of heavy dollar short-covering amid renewed suspected buying intervention by the central bank even as the outlook remains positive on a steady FII inflows and tumbling crude oil prices.

Surrendering overnight gains, the rupee closed at 44.25/26 a dollar, a 4-1/2 paise decline from Tuesday's close of 44.2150/2250, but a smart rally from a low of 44.27/28 struck in late morning deals. It opened at 44.22/23 a dollar. — PTI
