ZURICH: Egypt has reached its highest position in world football in eight years on the back of its fifth African Cup of Nations title in FIFA's monthly world rankings released on Wednesday. Egypt rose 15 places to 17th in February's rankings, with Nigeria up 12 positions to 12th. African Cup semifinalist Cameroon is 16th, up seven places. There's no change in the top five places from last month, with Brazil leading the Czech Republic, Netherlands, Argentina and France. Spain, Mexico and the United States are all tied for sixth. Brazil has 837 points, with the Czechs on 793. Only 37 points separate the Czech Republic and 10th-placed Portugal. The rankings: 1. Brazil, 837 points; 2. Czech Republic, 793; 3. Netherlands, 791; 4. Argentina, 769; 5. France, 766; 6. Spain, 765; (tied); Mexico, 765; (tied); United States, 765; 9. England, 758; 10. Portugal, 756; 11. Turkey, 746; 12. Nigeria, 738; (tied) Italy, 738; 14. Denmark, 735; 15. Sweden, 729; 16. Cameroon, 727; 17. Egypt, 714; 18. Japan, 712; 19. Greece, 706; (tied) (17) Germany, 706. AP
