DEAL DONE: T.R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, and Dr. Lorna Jean Edmonds, Director-Research, Queen's University, Canada, exchange the MoU, on Wednesday. P. Sathyanarayanan, SRMIST Vice Chancellor looks on.
CHENNAI: Chennai-based SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST - Deemed University) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Queen's University, Ontario, Canada. Under the agreement, the two institutions would do collaborative research in population and public health with focus on infectious diseases (neonatal sepsis and MRSA), alternative energy with a focus on fuel cells, biogas, solar energy and human and natural sciences with focus on nanotechnology and biotechnology. Lorna Jean Edmonds, director-research of Queen's University said the research would be mutually beneficial. The project had $6.5 million from the Canadian Government. The Government of India had also sanctioned money for the project, said P. Sathyanarayanan Vice-Chancellor of the deemed university. "Our association with one of the top universities of Canada will focus on exchange of faculty, students, staff and fellows, preparation and undertaking of joint research and development projects and also education and training." T.R. Pachamuthu, Chancellor of SRMIST, said the joint research projects would benefit India.
