NEW DELHI: The Samajwadi Party on Wednesday threatened to move a no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance Government if it did not reverse its stand on Iran at the March 6 meeting of the Governing Board of the International Atomic Energy Agency of which India is a member. Asked whether a no-confidence motion against the government could be construed as the SP withdrawing its "outside" support to the Manmohan Singh Government, the party's parliamentary party leader, Ramgopal Yadav, said: "Yes, it should be construed as a final warning to the Government." The party has 38 MPs in the Lok Sabha. The decision was taken at the parliamentary board meeting chaired by party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. The SP would raise the issues of Foreign Direct Investment in retail trade, spiralling prices of commodities, phone-tapping, Quattrochi bank accounts, Volcker oil-for-food report and Election Commissioner Navin Chawla.. Mr. Ramgopal Yadav said the SP and the Left parties would hold a rally at the Ram Lila grounds here on March 2, demanding that the UPA Government desist from voting against Iran on March 6. "The UPA Government's vote on the Iran nuclear issue is against the established foreign policy of the country. It is important to ensure that the Government does not support the United States' designs against the Islamic world be it Iraq, Iran or maybe Syria."
