DD not to seek telecast rights

New Delhi: Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Wednesday said it would not seek cricket telecast rights from the BCCI, but would enter into agreements with private broadcasters like ESPN-Star and Zee Sports for content sharing.

The decision comes ahead of the BCCI announcing its long-term telecast rights holder. The Board has set a staggering $450 million as the floor price for the rights. "We are now opting for content sharing with private broadcasters and have already sounded ESPN-Star Sports, Ten Sports, Zee and Sony in this connection," Prasar Bharati CEO K. S. Sarma said.

Pointing out that the new tender would allot both satellite and terrestrial rights to only one broadcaster, Mr. Sarma said letters had been sent to private channels for content sharing. Under the proposed agreement, Doordarshan would keep 25 per cent of the revenue and the remaining 75 per cent would go into the kitty of the private broadcaster, which would be awarded the telecast rights. — UNI
