Kurien's nomination rejected
ANAND:
High drama was witnessed in this milk town on Wednesday when the election process to the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India Ltd turned controversial after the nomination papers of the present chairman, Verghese Kurien, were rejected by the returning officer.
The papers were rejected as the candidature of his proposer, Harpartap Singh, Chairman, Punjab Milk Federation, was found faulty.
Objecting to the rejections, Mr. Singh said it was "illegal" as his name in the voting list was cleared on Tuesday. "This is against the spirit of the cooperative movement. We will fight against the injustice and, if necessary, go to court."
The nomination papers of Mahendra Singh, Chairman, Madhya Pradesh Milk Federation, whose name was proposed by his Rajasthan counterpart, were also rejected on the same ground. UNI
