241 temple cars to be renovated

16 cars will be renovated with funds available with temples concerned 225 cars will be renovated by obtaining surplus funds from temples as grants
CHENNAI:
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced a plan to renovate 241 temple cars in 190 temples at a total cost of Rs.11.68 crore.
Sixteen cars in 13 temples will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 83.85 lakh with funds available with the temples concerned, she said in a statement.
The 225 temple cars of the remaining 177 temples would be renovated at a cost of Rs. 10.84 crore by obtaining surplus funds from temples as grants from the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
Among the temples to benefit are the Tirunelveli Nellaiyappar Thirukoil, Vaideeshwaran Thirukoil, Mamallapuram Sthalasayana Perumal Thirukoil, Pudukottai Bragadambal Thirukoil, and Nagore Naganathaswamy Thirukoil.
Ms. Jayalalithaa said she had decided on the scheme following requests from devotees for revival of car festivals.
