Slaughter house official suspended

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has suspended the project coordinator of Ghazipur Slaughter House, M. L. Sharma. The Corporation said several irregularities were found in the execution of the project, especially in placing orders and making payment, during the review taken by the new Commissioner after taking over charge in November 2005 and the Vigilance Department was asked to conduct a detailed investigation.

The MCD said it had also highlighted these irregularities in its affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court. Claiming that it was committed to completing the project in due time, the MCD said efforts were being made to economise the cost so that avoidable expenditure is ruled out.

The MCD said a Technical Expert Committee under the chairmanship of former Vice-Chancellor of Jammu and Kashmir University, Nagender Sharma, has been set up to examine the claims of the contractor regarding the price of machineries and plant. Also, it added, the project is being monitored on a daily basis.
