NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday summoned in person the Delhi Government Chief Secretary, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Delhi Jal Board to explain why no action has so far been taken to stop the release of untreated sullage and sewage in the Yamuna here through the storm water drain meant for drainage of rain water only.
Affidavits
A Division Bench comprising Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma summoned the three top officials to appear before the court on March 1 when affidavits filed by the Government, the Corporation and the Board failed to satisfy them on their sincerity to address the problem. The Bench has been hearing a public interest litigation seeking directions to the above-mentioned respondents to treat sullage and sewage before releasing it into the river. The respondents have admitted before the Court that untreated sullage and sewage is being released into the river through the storm water drain.
