SALEM: Demanding concessions in their college fees and protesting against the poor maintenance of hostels, a group of students from the Salem Central Law College stormed into the Salem Collectorate and gheraoed an official from the Department of Adi Dravida Welfare for nearly 15 minutes on Thursday. Police had to intervene to rescue the officer.
Reduction of fees
The students, numbering about 70, came to the Collectorate to highlight a list of their demands that included the reduction of their college fees. When they raised slogans in front of the office of the Adi Dravida Welfare department, an official of the department tried to pacify them. But the students gheraoed him and refused to let him go. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
After getting assurances from the officials concerned, the students dispersed peacefully.
