Letters to the Editor
The violent opposition to Valentine's Day celebrations by the Dukhtaran-e-Millat, the Shiv Sena, and the Bajrang Dal across the country is unfortunate. Imitation of any lifestyle is the democratic choice of the people. If the organisations feel strongly about the issue they should persuade youngsters, not beat them up.
Ammar Anas,
The reports on the protests were rather hyped. The media should not give much publicity to them. The protesters are out to get some cheap publicity, which should be denied to them.
The annual festival of Vasantotsav, also known as Madanotsav or Kamotsav in many parts of India, enjoyed royal patronage in ancient India. Valentine's Day celebration is only old wine in new bottle.
