BANGALORE: IBM has opened a specialised software and services lab in Bangalore to drive automation and virtualisation into the increasingly complex IT infrastructure in India. The new lab High Performance On Demand Solutions Lab or HiPODS will be the first of its kind lab for IBM in India, the seventh such facility of IBM worldwide and the largest outside North America, Harish Grama, Vice President, IBM India Software Lab told reporters here on Thursday. HiPODS links IBM's top consultants, developers, engineers and researchers in India and around the world and the lab will focus on solving key client issues, including the time needed to adapt IT infrastructure to rapidly changing business environments, simplifying IT management and improving maintenance automation, optimising resource utilisation and improving reliability and service delivery. "This new lab is essentially a gateway for clients in India to tap into the knowhow of IBM's hundreds of software, services and research labs around the world and to bring IBM's deep business insights, technology knowhow and vast experience of simplifying complex IT implementation for our clients," says Willy Chiu, Vice-President, HiPODS, IBM. He said HiPODS was beginning to expand rapidly and IBM had plans to open more such labs across the globe. Mr. Grama said about 2,100 developers at HiPODS worked on over 500 client engagements last year. "By setting up a HiPODS lab in India, we can help local clients and leverage the experience we gained in India to reach new markets and clients around the world," he said.
