Festival with a difference

The Capital may have lost its annual date with world cinema when the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) moved to Goa, but film aficionados in the city still have reason to cheer.

If Cinemaya has been showcasing the best of Asian cinema, art as a medium is now also being used by colleges. This weekend will see Delhi University's Indraprastha College for Women kicking off the second edition of its annual film festival "Mise-en-Scene''.

Organised by the Mass Media and Mass Communication Department of the college, the two-day festival opening on Friday will feature over 40 films.

Films from around the world including works from universities of the U.S., Australia, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, Japan and Korea will be part of the festival, with an esteemed jury led by national award winning filmmaker Anant Patwardhan judging the works.

While the `Indie Film Fest' section will act as a platform for independent filmmakers to showcase their work, the festival will also have a photographic exhibition-cum-competition, "Frame Politic'', for students and amateur artists.

But the highlight of the festival will clearly be the "Make a film in two hours'' contest. -- Lakshmi B. Ghosh
