BJP to raise survey issue in Parliament

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI : The Bharatiya Janata Party gave notice on Thursday to the Speaker's office that it would like to take up the issue of the "survey" of Muslims employed in the armed forces during zero hour in Lok Sabha on Friday.

Disclosing this, BJP deputy leader in the Lok Sabha V.K. Malhotra said a meeting of leaders of the National Democratic Alliance had identified various issues that the Opposition would like to take up this parliamentary session. Mr. Malhotra listed the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly and the related Supreme Court judgment, alleged irregularities in the electoral rolls in West Bengal, the de-freezing of the London accounts of Bofors case accused Ottavio Quattrocchi and the rise of prices of essential commodities and petroleum products as among the subjects that were on the priority list of the Opposition.

Mr. Malhotra criticised the President's address to the joint session of Parliament as "dull and directionless" and "full of hollow promises." He also charged the United Progressive Alliance Government of playing "minority vote bank politics" and "attacking the secular character" of the country.
