EC orders action against 19 West Bengal officials
Special Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Election Commission on Thursday ordered action against 19 employees of the West Bengal Government engaged in revision of poll rolls.
The action is a sequel to the reports submitted by EC observers, who toured the State earlier. In a letter to the Chief Secretary and the Chief Electoral Officer, the Commission recommended the suspension of three officials, transfer of two officials, and transfer of and show-cause notices to eight others. It recommended show-cause notices to six junior officials for dereliction, the Commission spokesman said.
The observers said the officials did not follow the guidelines on revision of rolls. The Commission earlier warned that non-adherence to the guidelines, particularly on removal of the names of the dead and those who had shifted residence from the rolls, would not be tolerated.
